The Impacts

Always still jolted awake in the early hours of dawn, even if only I fall asleep

an hour before.

I wake up, ice still plastered against my brow;

  another "accident".

My temple ridge, tender and ached

  stiff, my face

My forehead plate, going on two days

 Inflamed

as my nose begs of you

"Not too close".

Fell asleep icing the impact,

  just another blow's repose.

Thank God,

  Nothing broke.

Not like the year and a half you took,

When you thought the back injury was a joke.

Just another accident.

At least that much is so.

Wondering though,

Why it keeps coming to this?

That is why I let him go

Less accidents

In the home.

Somehow always

At my expense.
